A Rampa do Pragal
Family run, in Almada, across the river. The fish comes off the boat and goes on the grill. Chips, salad, nothing else. Half the price of the equivalent in Lisbon and usually better.
Cristo Rei is a few minutes up the hill, and that is the view that looks back at the whole city. After lunch the coast road drops towards the beaches, with viewpoints along it that most people drive straight past.

The winery visit, the tasting, the guided walk and the Ducal Palace ticket are in the price. Lunch and dinner are paid at the table, and we pick them with you. It's fifteen hours out, so wear shoes you can walk in. The palace shuts Mondays and Tuesday mornings and the winery shuts Sundays, which leaves Wednesday to Saturday.
Built around you. None of this is fixed. We can swap the winery, add Évora or Monsaraz or Estremoz on a Saturday morning, and cut anything you don't care about. Tell us what you like and we'll put the day together.
Or stay out there. We work with country houses nearby, like Horta dos Caracóis, five minutes from the winery. Give it two or three nights and the Alentejo opens up: time for the quarries, for Évora, for the farms, and for doing nothing in the middle of the afternoon.

Costa Vicentina is the wild Atlantic coast below the Alentejo. Cliffs, empty beaches, almost nothing built. Nothing like the Algarve. About two and a half hours.
The Alentejo is cork oaks, whitewashed towns and the best food in the country. Comporta, Évora, Borba, Vila Viçosa, Estremoz, all €180 for the whole car, around two hours. Further out we will price it for you.

The kitchen garden feeds the table all year. A fireplace for winter, a pool for summer, and a wine cellar that is worth the trip by itself. Rooms go from small doubles up to the whole house. Dogs are welcome.
Getting there. No train, no bus worth taking, and a rental car means airport queues and a car you won't use once you arrive. We drive you instead — door to door with your luggage, about an hour and three quarters, €180 each way for the whole car, up to four of you. Stop for lunch or a winery on the way and we'll build it in.

The walking tour of Vila Viçosa is a different thing: the Ducal Palace, the Manueline pillory, the medieval castle and the old Jesuit House, in a town where even the kerbstones are marble.
You need a car. Both visits require your own vehicle, and Vila Viçosa is 189km from Lisbon with no train and buses that don't help. That's why we work with them: we drive you there, wait, and bring you back the same day.
Our day out there →A walk through both winemaking halls, past the vertical vats and the rotating horizontals and the open stone lagares. Then down into the ageing cellar, cut out of the marble, and the room where the wine sits in French, American and Portuguese oak. It ends in the tasting room above the barrels. Their restaurant is next to the shop and cooks the region's food alongside their own bottles.
Visits run Monday to Saturday, mornings and early afternoons, and have to be booked ahead. Over 12s only, and tastings are 18 and over.

Getting there. The school is across the bridge and there's no direct transport worth taking. We drive you both ways, wait while you're in the water, and leave you the afternoon on the beach. Tell us the date and we'll arrange it with them.

Nine places we send friends to. Several are across the river, which is where almost no tourist bothers going. Tap any of them for why.
One man runs the whole place. The menu is handwritten and there is no English on it. Plates are enormous, the bill is almost nothing. Locals start queueing before seven. Get there early or you won't get in.
An old dock falling apart, covered in street art. It faces back at Lisbon, so you get the whole city and the bridge in one go. Take the ferry from Cais do Sodré and walk along the water. Go for the sunset. The light comes across the river and lands on the whole city at once.

Everyone photographs it from the Lisbon side and hardly anyone crosses over. There is a lift to the feet of the statue. From up there you see the whole city at once, the bridge running into it and the river underneath. Best at the end of the afternoon, with the sun behind you.
A walled garden below the Graça viewpoint. Most of the people queueing up top have no idea it is there. Olive trees, grass, a kiosk, and the castle straight ahead. Open from half past seven in the morning until nine at night.
Green water and almost no waves, in a cove under the Arrábida hills. About an hour from Lisbon. The path down is steep. In August the parking is impossible, so use the free shuttle.
People drive down from Lisbon just for this. Cuttlefish in a thin batter, fried hard, with chips and salad. No reservations and it is always full, so either arrive when they open or expect to wait. A half portion is around €14 and feeds two. Closed Sundays.
A big room above Martim Moniz with a terrace over the city. Prices you have to read twice. It is set up for tables of ten rather than two, so bring people. Private karaoke rooms downstairs.
Three euros. No menu, no table. Pork that has been simmering in garlic, wine and paprika since morning, handed over the counter. The mustard and chilli oil are on the side, you do that part yourself. Cash only. Open from eight, closed Sundays. There is usually a queue but it moves fast.
Three of these are across the river.
The ferry runs, but it stops earlier than you would expect, and the walk up from the dock is steeper than it looks. We can drive you over and come back for you when you are done.

We provide private passenger transport and organise days around it. The guided visits, tastings, lessons and rides described on this site are run by independent companies licensed for those activities, under their own terms and their own insurance. We arrange and coordinate them; we do not run them.
Bookings are made by WhatsApp and are only confirmed when we reply confirming the date, the time and the price. Where a booking requires us to pay a partner in advance, we ask for a deposit to hold your places; the balance is paid on the day.
Prices are per person or per vehicle as stated on each tour, and include only what is listed. Meals are paid at the restaurant unless stated otherwise.
You may cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before the service. After that the deposit is retained, as we will already have paid our partners. If we cancel, for any reason, you receive a full refund. Because these are leisure and transport services provided on a specific date, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply.
Portuguese law applies. In case of a dispute you may use the electronic Complaints Book, or turn to an alternative dispute resolution body: CNIACC, the national consumer arbitration centre.

When you book, we collect your name, phone number, the date of the service and the address where we pick you up. We use it only to provide the service you asked for and to keep the records tax law requires. Where a booking involves a partner, we pass on the minimum needed to hold your place, usually a name and the number of people.
Messages are exchanged over WhatsApp, which is operated by Meta under its own privacy terms. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics measures visits to this site. If you refuse, nothing is measured.
